Product Details

The original 10" LP NEW ORLEANS TO LONDON is arguably the seminal album of the British Traditional Jazz movement. Chris Barber and Monty Sunshine wanted to turn professional and when Ken Colyer returned from New Orleans they invited him to join the band. Along with Tony 'Lonnie' Donegan, Jim Bray and Ron Bowden the band set the template for pianoless Traditional Jazz bands thereafter. A single from the LP, ISLE OF CAPRI/GOIN' HOME, enjoyed modest chart success and became the first Traditional Jazz record to do so. The band barely lasted a year and fell apart in acrimony. Colyer was replaced by Pat Halcox and Chris Barber's Jazz Band was born. Colyer reformed with a then unknown clarinettist, Bernard 'Acker' Bilk and recorded another LP BACK TO THE DELTA. It, too, is included here. This issue includes the rare alternate 'Delta' sides only ever issued in the US.
