MIKE DANIELS & HIS DELTA JAZZ BAND
MIKE ON MIKE
LACD322
Mike Daniels led one of the best bands during the Trad era. He remained steadfastly semi-professional and pursued a policy of playing Classic Jazz from the Armstrong/Oliver/Morton period. No slavish copyist, though, Mike Daniels' band interpreted the music in its own style. Despite the semi-pro status the band made one LP and one single for major labels. Both are included here plus six 'vintage' tracks from the band's early period 1949/50. The band, of course, included one of the UK's best reed players, John Barnes. This is well-played hot Jazz.

BRITISH TRADITIONAL JAZZ - AT A TANGENT Vol.3: OUT OF THE LIMELIGHT
LACD318
This is the third in the series of CDs which followed on from the triple CD compilation, BRITISH TRADITIONAL JAZZ - A POTTED HISTORY (LACD300). This one deals with various top quality bands who never made the big time during the Trad era. Many of the musicians in these bands did go on to join the 'big' names (e.g. Alan Elsdon, Mike Peters, Graham Stewart) while some of the bands chose to remain semi-professional (e.g. The Famous Southern Stompers). One band, The Dud Clews Jaz Orch. is an example of the sub-genre of vintage big bands. A varied selection of top-notch traditional jazz.

BRITISH TRADITIONAL JAZZ - AT A TANGENT Vol.2
LACD317
LACD300 gave an overview of the development of Traditional Jazz in Britain, but what it could not do was reveal everything which was going on. This CD looks at Traditional style musicians who went off and played in other musical styles: gypsy jazz, jug bands, country music, comedy and the blues.

BRITISH TRADITIONAL JAZZ - AT A TANGENT Vol.1
LACD316
LACD300 gave an overview of the development of Traditional Jazz in Britain. What it could not do was look at some of the things which were also happening. This CD is sub-titled 'Breaking The Mould' because it looks at bands and musicians who did not always pursue a predictable path. Humphrey Lyttelton was not the only one moving into a more Mainstream style and this CD looks at some of those musicians. There also bands which were not averse to trying things out with musicians from other styles of Jazz. The CD contains some interesting surprises
