CHRIS BARBER’S JAZZ & BLUES BAND with KEN COLYER – NEW ORLEANS PARADE
Artist: CHRIS BARBER’S JAZZ & BLUES BAND with KEN COLYER
The roots of Chris Barber’s Band lay in Ken Colyer’s Jazzmen in 1953. During the 1980s a series of reunion concerts took place. Usually they involved the original 1953 line-up but some featured just Ken Colyer with the band. That configuration never formally recorded and, until recently when these recordings came to light, there were no known concert recordings. Ken Colyer, a legend in New Orleans Jazz in the UK, although suffering illness during that period, plays extremely well and fits into the more contemporary style of the Barber band with ease. The Barber band had visited New Orleans in the 1980s and recorded with various musicians from the city including Dr John. The album features two tracks by the New Orleans Parade Band made up from the band.
